HURRICANE SEASON

“What is this business of living and loving? / of wars and of weather?”

WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY SAWYER ESTES
SETS BY JOSH OBERLANDER
LIGHTS BY LINDSEY SHARPLESS
COSTUMES BY ERIN O’CONNOR
SOUND BY ZACH HALABY AND KACIE WILLIS
PROJECTIONS BY HANNAH ALLINE AND MATTHEW SHIVLEY

HURRICANE SEASON was presented twice, first in 2022 at the Windmill Arts Center in Atlanta and then again in 2024 at Theater Row in New York City.

In this world-premiere play set against a backdrop of news headlines and pornography,  a husband and wife each become entangled in extra-marital affairs with young people eerily resembling their own likeness. At turns bewildering, gut-wrenching, hilarious, and expressionistic, the play is a peculiar exploration of human desire in chaotic times.

“The effect is intriguing and uneasy. The technical skill needed to create such a weird, creepy space merits praise. Vernal & Sere presents Hurricane Season with projected video perfectly synced with onstage action and harsh, colorful lighting from designer Lindsey Sharpless. Set designer Josh Oberlander’s work is impressive, particularly during the second act of the show, when an average family home is ripped to pieces.” ArtsATL
