The Path is a romantic comedy that takes place in 1982 Greenwich Village during the cultural hangover of the late 60's and 70's. It was a time when there was widespread disillusionment with outwardly focused political activism and a rise of inwardly focused attempts at self-actualization. There was a sense that everything is allowed but nothing is ever enough, coupled with a quasi-post-modern concept that all meaning is relative. In this world a small group of young people attempt to transcend social restrictions and achieve personal liberation through engaging in ritualized transgressive behavior.
It is a world of punk rock, CBGB's, mosh pits, the films of Andrei Tarkovsky, Rocky Horror, Protest Marches, a tongue in cheek look at extreme therapy rituals, singing, dancing, an angelic spirit guiding a young woman and ultimately the triumph of romantic love.
